A Grassroots Action for Trans Inclusion
Right now, across the UK and beyond, trans people are facing unprecedented political attacks. The Supreme Court ruling and its subsequent endorsement by the Labour government opens the door for laws and policies designed to restrict our basic right to exist in public spaces, beginning with exclusion from public bathrooms.
🚨 Proposals to ban trans people from using bathrooms aligned with their gender identity are gaining traction in the UK.
🚨Transphobic voices are being amplified creating the illusion of widespread support for the exclusion of trans people from public life
🚨 Media outlets and political leaders are stoking fear and division, painting trans people as threats when all they want is dignity, privacy, and safety.
Let’s be crystal clear:
🛑 There is no evidence that trans-inclusive bathrooms compromise anyone’s safety.
🛑 There is overwhelming evidence that denying access causes harm, deep harm.
💔 48% of trans people in the UK feel unable to safely use public toilets.
💔 59% avoid them entirely for fear of harassment, assault, or worse.
💔 Trans people are more likely to be the victims – not perpetrators – of violence in these spaces.
We cannot wait for lawmakers to do the right thing. It’s on us – businesses, communities, individuals – to take a stand. To create safe spaces where trans people can simply exist, without fear.
The last week has left us feeling powerless in the face of legally sanctioned state violence. We are anything but powerless.
We can create a safer world for trans people. Starting with places for trans people to use the bathroom.
We call workers — both trans people AND allies — to approach their employers with this proposal:
➡️ Allow all trans people to access the business’s bathroom; whether they are customers or not.
➡️ Display a vinyl window sticker that declares your bathrooms are safe, accessible spaces for trans people.
This is not just a sticker. It’s a visible commitment to equality, dignity, and inclusion.
To help with approaching your employer we have created an implementation guide that will be sent to you with your sticker. We ask for £5 to help cover the cost of printing and posting the sticker. If for any reason that price is prohibitive, let us know at: [email protected].
🌟 A vinyl sticker 3x3 inches with a universal toilet icon + optional QR code linking to trans rights info and resources.
🌟 An implementation guide that walks you through:
1️⃣ Sticker placement – prominently display it at your entrance.
2️⃣ Staff training – learn how to uphold the Equality Act 2010, support trans individuals, and handle any objections with confidence.
3️⃣ Community engagement tools – be listed on our online map of inclusive businesses and get a social media kit to share your participation loud and proud.
This small act sends a BIG message:
You see trans people.
You support trans people.
You are a safe space for trans people to use basic facilities.
💡 Why now?
The Supreme Court ruling is a precursor to further discrimination. We have a short window to mitigate the suppressive effect this is intended to have on trans people in public life.
Dignity and safety are basic rights.
Allyship is about action.
✨We are not powerless. We can build the infrastructures that will ensure our safety. We can protect trans people. ✨
Roll out begins in two weeks time.
